In 2005 the Flight 592 memorial was vandalized. Vandals painted swastikas on the columns and defaced the stone slab with all the victims names. We got a crew together to cleanup the damage. Armed with pressure cleaners and cleaning products, we removed all evidence of what the vandals did.
I contacted local media to hopefully shame the folks that did this. The media did show up. To my surprise, I start getting phone calls from friends that my picture is in the newspaper. By mid day, the next day, the story went national. It was featured coast to coast. Whomever vandalized that site, there wasn’t a place left in the USA that didn’t run the story shaming them.
