Melbourne Hamfest 2025 – Got Boat?

Got Boat?

Man o’man, it was a duck fest. No seriously… there were MALLARDS swimming in the grass parking area!

A small group of us headed up from Miami on Thursday. It rained the whole way from Homestead to Melbourne.  Sometimes it was a drizzle, sometimes it was a full on tropical storm type rain. It just did not let up. I must have used all of George Carlin’s colorful words on the way up there.

This is a 2 day fest, Friday and Saturday. Guess what happened Friday? It rained all freakin’ day. It didn’t let up till 4pm. Tailgate was obviously shot. Nobody was going to tailgate in that weather. The powers that be at PCARS closed off the tailgate area instead of letting attendees park there. It was the nearest lot to the building. They made attendees park on the side of the road in the rain having a perfectly EMPTY lot. Total dipsh*t move. Attendees were rather ticked off. Somebody was obviously giving themselves an autocolonoscopy on that decision and deserved to go sit in the grass lot with the Mallards.

Moving on to Saturday. The weather held up and some tailgaters showed up but not many. It was maybe 10? The weather definitely scared folks off. When they opened the doors to the general public I think maybe 100 came through in the first surge. Pretty much it was vendors buying from each other. Despite the setbacks, I came to liquidate junk at cheap prices so I did ok. The same story couldn’t be said of many other vendors. Plenty of stuff from Friday was still on people’s tables on Saturday. The weather obviously screwed things up for everyone.

Would I return? Absolutely. I love the Melbourne show. There’s always the coolest used stuff there. The space coast always yields 2nd hand gold. Is there stuff they need to address? Yep!

  1. The folks at PCARS really need to rethink that closing of the tailgate area stunt. It sucked and was downright mean. Nobody was going to tailgate in a rainstorm. Who cares if people parked there?!? If somebody setup in the rain they deserve the free spot.
  2. Based on the weather for this show, It might be time to consider moving the date towards the end of the month. Early/Mid October has had a recurring track record of crap weather.

If you’re wondering based on the first pic if it flooded in the auditorium, no. That’s just silly AI but it sure felt like it was gonna flood on Friday!
