Per a recent message from the ARRL…
“Polk County, Florida, ARES has discovered a highly effective method for expanding our ranks and boosting amateur radio participation across the board: We have engaged our local Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT). By fostering collaboration and demonstrating the unique capabilities of amateur radio, we’ve tapped into a goldmine of enthusiastic new recruits.”
Shit like this REALLY grinds my gears!
Just over 3 years ago (maybe going on 4 years now) at a Field Day event here in Miami Dade County. A visiting ARRL official and I personally discussed how our club was embracing the prepper community, GMRS, CB, and SWL’s as that was the most likely place to find perspective new hams. We discussed how hams need to stop thumbing their nose at other radio hobbyists. He wholeheartedly agreed with me and said he was fighting that battle at ARRL.
So now it’s some club in Polk County that came up with it? um… no
